Regina (Macchia) Luttrell ’98 has been named a Kopenhaver Center Fellow by the Lillian Lodge Kopenhaver Center for the Advancement of Women in Communication.

Luttrell, who is currently associate professor and associate dean for research and creative activity at Syracuse University’s Newhouse School of Public Communications, will participate in a workshop titled “Women Faculty Moving Forward: Leading the Future of Academia.”

The Kopenhaver Center was created in 2012 as a pioneering site for the advancement of women in the field of communication. The center’s mission is to foster and advance the academic and professional growth of women by supporting the next generation of professionals and giving them the power to take on challenges and to pursue leadership positions in the communication industry.

“As I progress in my career as an academic and administrative leader, this fellowship will be instrumental,” Luttrell said. “This is a tremendous opportunity to connect with and learn from others, share leadership ideas and ultimately become a change agent with my community.”

Lutrell majored in journalism and English at UC, and went on to earn her master’s in public communication from the College of St. Rose, and her doctorate from the California Institute of Integral Studies. She taught at the College of St. Rose and Eastern Michigan University before joining SU. She has written and edited numerous books, including “Democracy in the Disinformation Age: Influence and Activism in American Politics.”
